Roots

The first poem is from In the Shadow of my Pen (A Collection of Poetry and Prose)
The second poem was written last month.

She is like a tree.

Her roots are deep.

She either feels it all or nothing.

You can find pieces of her wherever you wander, blowing in the breeze or on the ground among the debris.

Her branches were once high until someone cut them down.

Now all that remains are stumps turning brown.

Sometimes she grows, but her flowers rarely blossom.

Because she lived in the dark for so long, she has forgotten what it means to feel “alive”.

One day she will grow enough to flower.

She will be the tallest tree to be found.

But until then, she remains with her roots, buried underground.
