Shelter

(from A Jar of Stars)

I am tired and weary.

My strength is evaporating quickly.

In the distance, I hear the maniacal cackles of monsters.

My mind, body and spirit have entry wounds made by their bullets.

I need to rest, so I lie down in this trench.

Now I am stuck.

A stench of poison surrounds me.

I need to move on, but the weight of these shackles is heavy.

I need to take shelter where no one else can find me.

So I keep searching for somewhere that is warm, loving and safe, and

free from the ties that bind me.
