Resolutions

(my own words)

As the year approaches its conclusion, what false resolutions will we make?
The resolutions we break within days within days.
Can we change our ways?
Instead of resolving to stop doing this or that, why not pat yourself on the back,
for still being here.
And for still showing up even on the days you felt rough.
Life is a marathon.
Go at your own pace.
Face each day with gratitude and grace.
Don’t compare yourself to others.
That is a fool’s game.

No need to make resolutions.
Or promises of abstention from cigarettes or drink.
Take each day as it comes, the bad and the good.
