Echoes

(from In the Shadow of my Pen: A Collection of Poetry and Prose)

Echoes of the past flow away with the tide.

Echoes released from my mind.

As I watch the waves ripple in and out, I see the echoes start to drown.

Echoes of words now washed out to sea.

They scream and shout, but I ignore their pleas.

These echoes are no longer part of me.
